Lopez criticizes PP for supporting anti-hoax measures in Brussels and rejecting them in Spain

The parliamentary spokesperson of the PSOE, Patxi López, criticized the fact that the PP is unknowingly opposing the measures of democratic regeneration and against disinformation that the government will present this Tuesday, while it recently supported very similar measures in Brussels. Without anticipating its content, he affirmed that “there will be measures that will affect all the powers of the State (executive, legislative and judicial) and the media.” Among the latter, there will be the knowledge of the ownership of the media and the public resources they receive.

“As for the media, it is about transposing a European directive so that the media publish who their owners are, their institutional and public resources. It is a tool that allows citizens to know what is behind each media, their prejudices, their interests, and to choose based on that. The important thing is that you receive truthful information.

In any case, he is aware that this will not be enough to put an end to hoaxes. “The debate will go further, to see how to put an end to the spread of hoaxes that lead people to be informed with false information,” he said, affirming that the government's proposal “will be debated and improved” when it is adopted in Congress.

Regarding the PP's announced opposition to the measures, López wondered “why they vote in Brussels in favor of what we have talked about in the media and the same thing, transferred to Spain, they demonstrate against it, it's great.” In this sense, he asked that the PP “put on the construction suit instead of attacking the government just for fun, using things that are outside of reality.”
