Anvisa bans hormone implants known as “beauty chips”

Anvisa published a resolution in the afternoon of Friday (18) prohibiting the manipulation, commercialization and use of manipulated hormonal implants, known as “beauty chips”. This action is preventive in nature and impacts all pharmacies that produce medicines. The decision was taken following complaints from medical entities about health concerns related to the use of the product.

Hormonal implants, which mix substances without safety evaluation, can cause serious complications, such as increased cholesterol, hypertension, arrhythmias and other side effects. Anvisa recommends that patients using this product consult their doctor and report any adverse reactions.

In addition, Anvisa has been monitoring the situation since 2021 and emphasizes that only evaluated and registered products can be manipulated. The agency highlighted that the use of hormonal implants for aesthetic purposes lacks evidence of safety and effectiveness, thereby posing significant health risks.
