Auto dealers seeking more information about the Federal Trade Commission’s upcoming CARS Rule regulating dealership advertising and finance and insurance practices can attend a virtual open meeting featuring the topic Jan. 18.
“Staff from the FTC’s Division of Financial Practices will provide an overview of the new CARS Rule, which targets bait-and-switch tactics and junk fees, and includes clear protections for military members,” the FTC wrote in a news release Jan. 11
The commission’s open meeting will begin at 11 a.m. EST Jan. 18. The FTC will post a link on its website FTC.gov “shortly before the meeting starts,” which will allow the public to watch the event. A recording and comments will be posted on the website after the session ends.
The FTC will allow members of the public to raise topics or comment on the agency’s work at the meeting. Sign up by 8 p.m. EST Jan. 16 on the FTC’s website to speak live for up to two minutes or to share written or video comments. Video submissions are also limited to two minutes.
It’s unclear how long into the meeting the CARS Rule segment will begin. The FTC in the Jan. 11 release listed two topics on the tentative agenda — the CARS Rule and an unrelated Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule. The meeting will begin with remarks from FTC Chair Lina Khan and public comments.
