NSW Police nab contender for world’s dumbest criminal

A simple driving indiscretion has turned into multiple charges for a Dubbo motorist pulled over by New South Wales police officers over the long weekend.

In a post on Facebook, the NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol Command detailed the bizarre circumstances which led to one man’s Easter weekend going from bad to worse.

On Easter Monday, a Mitsubishi Triton was pulled over by Dubbo Highway Patrol officers for having an obstructed rear number plate – which would normally result in a $514 fine and a three demerit point penalty.

However, upon further investigation it was discovered the driver was unlicensed, and the number plates belonged to another car.

This was only compounded when a roadside drug test returned a positive result for methamphetamine.

The man then allegedly called and sent text messages to a person who had taken out an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) against him – in front of officers, all while he is currently out on bail.

His rap sheet for the day includes being charged and arrested for driving while licence refused, an AVO breach, bail breach, goods in custody and an array of traffic offences.

The man was reportedly refused bail and will face Dubbo Local Court today.
