Illa (PSC) points to drought as the first priority if it reaches the Generalitat
The leader of the PSC and candidate in Sunday's Catalan elections, Salvador Illa, has promised that if he becomes president of the Generalitat, his first measure would be an 'emergency decree' against the drought, which would streamline the infrastructure needed to combat, both in the short and medium term. The second, he said, would be the appointment of a “commissioner for self-government” to conduct an audit of public services, “not to look for responsibilities”, but to know their exact situation, how it was achieved and what needs to be done. done “to increase the level of service to which Catalonia should aspire.”
Illa is considered the favorite in the polls and has assured in an interview on TVE that if he wins the presidency, he will form a “transversal” government representing “the entire Catalan society.” In this sense, he has said that he would “involve talent and competent people in every area of government action”, criticizing that the previous ERC and Junts governments of the past decade were formed “on the basis of party criteria”. For example, he has reiterated his commitment to the Interior, with the mayor of Santa Coloma de Gramanet, Nuria Parlon, as advisor and with Josep Lluís Trapero as head of the Mossos.
As for possible government pacts, Illa has outright ruled out any form of alliance with the far-right Vox or Alliança Catalana. As for the others, he has said he is taking a “social democratic approach, pro-prosperity, but shared, and with public services as a priority.” “The agreement with the one that comes closest to these options will be easier,” he said, without naming any party, although most likely thinking of the ERC and the House of Commons.
As for the Junts, he recalled that their leader, Carles Puigdemont, “has said that he will leave politics before becoming president, and therefore his priorities are different.” As for the PP's possible support, he has limited himself to saying that he hopes to achieve a result that will allow him to govern. “I see myself as strong enough to govern, run for president and gain sufficient support. That is my wish and I have good feelings about it,” he said. What he has guaranteed is that he will run for office if the predictions come true and he wins the election, even with an insufficient majority.
