The Queen will inaugurate the Madrid Book Fair on May 31

The Madrid Book Fair returns for the next edition May 31 in its 83rd edition in the Retiro Park and in which the Inauguration of the Queen, absent last year, and whose main novelty is the central octagonal space in which 15 “small” publishers will be located. The fair ends on June 16 after celebrating more than 300 activities, during an event “enlightened” by sport, under the motto 'Train your mind, read your body'.

This is what the director of the fair, Eva Orueduring the presentation of an edition where the budget is exceeded 1.7 million eurosnearly half a million more than the year before, and in which the organization has “modernized” as they incorporated new internal operations.

«We have built in a central space with a shape octagonal in which fifteen editorials will appear small, but important. We chose an octagonal room because we have space on the sides signature space so that they can work with a certain ease. If the number of bookstores continues to grow, we need to create attractive spaces in the center,” says Orúe.

In total they will be 359 exhibitors on the sides of the venue, two fewer than last year, and the remaining 15 housed in the new space, also fewer than the 24 in 2023. “We have the space we have,” the fair's director emphasized.

The opening event on May 31 will bring together two writers and one writer of an 'intimate' character. relationship with sports: Leila Guerrero, Miguel Pardeza and Pierre Assouline. Also on the first day, the 'Loyalty Award' will be presented to RTVE for its “support, dissemination and defense of the fair”.
