This Morning presenter Alison Hammond was floored after her co-star dropped a death confession. The 49-year-old joined usual co-host Dermot O’Leary as they fronted Friday’s instalment (April 12) of the ITV daytime programme.
The TV duo spoke to US reporter Andrew who shared the latest showbiz news, from the current status of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s messy divorce to the upcoming Bridget Jones film.
Sharing the latest cast updates, he confirmed Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant would be reprising their roles as Bridget Jones and Daniel Cleaver. Andrew also revealed that One Day star Leo Woodall will be playing Bridget’s “toy boy”.
But one person who won’t be returning is Colin Firth as Mark Darcy. Andrew explained that this is likely because the character is killed off in the books.
The Big Brother star couldn’t believe what she was hearing as she placed her hand on her chest. “I didn’t know he died,” she said. “I’m devastated.”
Dermot then suggested the character might not be dead as movies are often different from the books. Alison hit back: “Well it’s pretty obvious if he’s not in the cast.”
It comes after things turned slightly awkward on the ITV show when Alison and Dermot spoke to the five finalists of The Apprentice.
Addressing Phil Turner, Alison took a jibe at his losing streak on the show. She said: “Have you enjoyed your experience? You’ve had quite a few losses, haven’t you?”.
However, the BBC candidate didn’t seem too thrilled about the comment as he hit back: “Did you have to mention that Alison?”.
Attempting to salvage her question, she quipped: “What I was going to say is although you’ve had losses, you’ve climbed back out and you’re still there.” Not taking too much offence, he told the ITV host it was all to do with resilience.
He added: “Week in and week out I was getting losses, you know what, I actually really enjoyed the boardroom. I think I had about 27 boardrooms in the end, but the cafe, the cafe is really brutal, it’s horrible.”
