Bake Off fans in hysterics after Greg James quips BBC colleague ‘might call police’ on him

Radio One presenter Greg James kept viewers entertained during his baking challenge – but admitted his colleague Clare Balding would not be best pleased.

The BBC radio host was joined by fellow celebrities including Spice Girl’s Mel B, This Morning’s Dermot O’Leary and comedian Fern Brady as the four battled it out for the coveted win.

Their first challenge on Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer, the signature bake, was making eight iced buns, and they were later tasked with making their celebrity doppelgangers in biscuit form.

Greg opted to make his signature bake in the image of Crufts presenter Clare much to viewers’ delight who could not contain their laughter.

When showing the sweet treats to judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood the duo broke out into a fit of giggles.

Prue remarked: “Now, Gregg… tell us all about Clare Balding.”

“So this is my doppelganger,” he explained. “She’s been made out of two different biscuits. The base and her head are lemon shortbread.”

Gregg continued: “And then there is buttercream lemon icing. On top of that, her features are made out of Italian ricciarelli biscuit.”

Paul joked: “I think you should send it to her.”

Gregg replied: “I think she might call the police.”

Viewers took to social media as they reacted to the doppelganger biscuit, as @Jonsta1990 tweeted: “Greg James’s biscuit of Clare Balding is incredible #gbbo.”

@Jonny_Dodds quipped: “If you say ‘Clare Balding’ three times into a mirror this will appear behind you #GBBO.”

@ryanthesoapking remarked: “Claire Balding hasn’t aged a day #GBBO @gregjames #SU2C.”(sic)

Thankfully, Clare saw the funny side to the cheeky jibe as she tweeted: “Can’t believe Paul Hollywood ate my eye… top work @gregjames. You may not win #GBBO but you’ve won my heart #SU2C.”

Greg did not go on to win as Dermot was crowned the show winner.
