BBC Beyond Paradise actor pays sweet tribute to ‘wonderful’ co-star after exit

Jamie Bamber, who starred in series one of Beyond Paradise, shared a lovely compliment about his co-star Sally Bretton, who plays Martha Lloyd. Jamie appeared on the BBC show as Archie and quickly became a fan favourite as viewers learned about his past romance with the cafe owner.

The chemistry between Archie and Martha was evident, and fans were rooting for them as Archie attempted to rekindle their love after she returned to Shipton Abbott. Although they had plans to marry, things got complicated, and viewers were captivated by their relationship, especially when Archie tried to win Martha back with a kiss in the first series.

Jamie, who left the show at the end of series one, spoke highly of Sally, telling Express.co.uk at the time: “Oh, she’s wonderful, she is what you see on the screen.

“She’s someone who is just really – and this is true for Kris and Felicity too, they are actors that really listen. The awkwardness of all the scenes that we have to play together is about what’s not said.”

He continued to praise her acting skills, saying: “So, for every line that is written, there are 14 other versions that could’ve been said. What Sally does is she goes through the other 13 versions before she says the 14th in those nanoseconds in between.”

Jamie also shared his thoughts on what makes relationships work on screen, emphasizing the importance of choosing the right words.

He explained: “Especially in relationships that are really important where you know there’s a lot on the line. You’re thinking, ‘I can make a real mess of this’, every single time you open your mouth.”

“Everything you say is a choice between many other things and I think that’s what you see.

“Certainly that’s what I get when working with Sally and all the other actors in this show and I think you can see that.”

Archie didn’t get the reaction he wanted when he tried to kiss Martha, and so in series two, he is nowhere to be seen, although he has been mentioned.

In series two, Martha and Humphrey seem happier than ever as the couple prepares to begin the process of fostering a child.

Beyond Paradise returns on Friday at 9pm on BBC One.
