The BBC has announced a major change for Morning Live and BBC Breakfast which has divided viewers.
BBC Breakfast host Jon Kay revealed the shake-up for the two programmes on X, formerly known as Twitter, last night.
The 54-year-old shared: “It’s a big week for the #BBCBreakfast team. From now on, the programme will be 15 minutes longer Mon-Fri.
“Then at 0930 our friends and neighbours @BBCMorningLive take over – and their show has been extended, too! The UK’s two biggest morning shows just got BIGGER!”
BBC Breakfast used to run between 6am and 9.15am, with Morning Live airing until 10am.
The announcement divided fans who took to the comments section with their opinions on the news.
Clifford Thompson penned in light of his followers on the platform: “Good luck with the new format.”
John Smith wrote: “Much prefer what BBC has to offer than ITV at the moment. There are exceptions like Charlotte, Ben and Kate at GMB but for me, the others are too full of ego. The BBC shows appear to be driven by creating a good, friendly product rather than presenters wanting ‘their moment’.” (sic)
Matt Moore added: “Brilliant I love BBC Breakfast see you at 6am happy new year to all Breakfast team.”
However, Andy wrote: “15 minutes more expense for the licence payer! Yet Newsnight gets cut!”
Another shared: “Thin edge of the wedge…. You’ll be on air until after the One Show at this rate!”
The BBC has been contacted for comment by Express.co.uk on its decision for the changes.
As it stands, Jon presents BBC Breakfast with Sally Nugent from Monday to Wednesday, while Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty lead the show from Thursday to Saturday.
Last year the programme launched a new multi-purpose studio which is located in Media City, in Salford, and it is shared with BBC Sport.
Morning Live, which airs at the same time as Lorraine on ITV, is usually hosted by Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton.
BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One from 6am to 9.30am.
