The Strictly Come Dancing results programme usually reveals which couple has been sent home following the dreaded dance-off.
However, the format had to change this evening following Nigel Harman and Katya Jones’ shock exit from the series on Saturday evening.
Nigel had to pull out of the show after sustaining a painful rib injury in rehearsals for Musicals’ Week.
Instead, Strictly fans watched the professional dancers perform a routine from My Fair Lady and singer Joss Stone sang This Time from the new musical The Time Traveller’s Wife.
However, the episode sparked a backlash, with many viewers taking to social media to issue the same complaint.
Flocking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Gavin remarked: “The results show is a bit pointless this week #Strictly ….”
A second wrote: “There’s not really any need for a show tonight #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.”
A third commented: “Tonight’s #Strictly ‘results’ show just seems odd without the dance-off.”
Marvin penned: “How are they going to pad this show out when there’s no dance-off? #Strictly.”
Gary fumed: “No one’s leaving, so why are you still on air? #Strictly.”
Kris added: “Tonight’s episode is very pointless, but am I still gonna watch? sure #Strictly.”
During the episode, hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman spoke to the final four about what dances they have chosen to take on next week.
They also discussed their performances from Musicals’ Week with the two hosts.
During Saturday’s show, Layton Williams managed to receive a score of 40 points from the judges – which was the first perfect score of the series so far.
The celebrities remaining in the competition include Layton, Bobby Brazier, Ellie Leach and Annabel Croft.
Nigel appeared on the show to address why he had to quit the series. He told host Claudia Winkleman: “I’ve done something to my rib basically and it’s quite painful. I’m a little bit high on painkillers as well, but I’m having a lovely time.”
He added: “I’ve loved it and I am loving it. It’s too soon to say loved. And this hasn’t really sunk in. When I watched everyone come down the stairs I was like ‘Oh, this is real. I’m not part of this anymore’ and that’s quite sad. I’ve been avoiding Kat all day as that makes it really real as well.”
Strictly Come Dancing returns next Saturday evening on BBC One for the semifinals.
