BBC’s The Traitors ‘gets really dark’ in series two, Claudia Winkleman teases

Claudia Winkleman has teased this year’s series of The Traitors “gets really dark” as she returns as the gameshow’s host for season two of the BBC show.

The Traitors took the UK by storm last year as viewers watched the ultimate game of treachery unfold on screens.

Despite The Traitors trying to deceive everyone to win the prize money, The Faithfuls were victorious in the end and split the cash three ways.

Ahead of the new series airing, Express.co.uk spoke to Claudia Winkleman about heading back to the Scottish castle where the hit reality show is based, and what fans can expect.

Fresh from the Strictly Come Dancing final, Claudia wore a grey oversized jumper as she reflected on the success of the first series of The Traitors which had been viewed more than 34 million times on BBC iPlayer.

The 51-year-old host recalled: “The success of the first series literally winded us and flawed us.”

Claudia was tasked with selecting The Traitors for series two which happens when all contestants are blindfolded around a grand roundtable in the castle during the opening instalment.

She shared: “It was incredibly stressful, especially because I am evil – I didn’t think I was – but I go around the table in clickity clackity boots a few times.”

Claudia teased: “I don’t want to say why or what it is but there is one roundtable where I came out physically shaking. It’s intense and you also can’t predict what is going to happen at the roundtable.”

Struggling to hold in what happens during the series, Claudia explained: “I don’t want to give too much away, but you’ll become obsessed with somebody.

“I became so obsessed with somebody that at the end of that, I was inconsolable, it was a dark place.”

Viewers were torn last year between The Faithfulls and The Traitors, with swarms of fans taking to social media to share who they were backing to take home the huge sum of money.

Claudia teased this year’s series “gets really dark” at times are the walls close in on The Traitors.

Will they come out on top, or will The Faithfulls once again walk away with the cash?

The Traitors series two airs on BBC One on January 3 at 9pm and episodes two and three will be available on iPlayer immediately after.
