Channel 4 viewers all say the same thing about David O’Doherty’s GBBO appearance

Gabby Logan was crowned Star Baker on the latest instalment of the Great British Bake Off celebrity specials for Stand Up To Cancer. However, it was another contestant that won viewers’ hearts. Irish comedian David O’Doherty proved a hit with fans of the show despite his hapless efforts in the tent.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, they shared their thoughts. @lucamcintyres gushed: “David Doherty may not win bake off tonight but he has won my heart #su2cbakeoff #bakeoff.” (sic)

@nbtgamble opined: “David O’Doherty on bake off is everything I needed and more.” (sic) @Imtherealanon commented: “David didn’t win Star Baker but he won Star Entertainer in my book. Great show tonight. Thanks to all the contestants for making it fun. #GBBO.” (sic)

@MattZeeMiller cried: “Noooo!!! David should have won, ok first two rounds didn’t taste great but he’s so ambitious and tried his best and wasn’t scared to be ambitious!! and his final bake was the best! Still love the flake ship! Wanted a David celebration dance!!! #GBBO.” (sic)

Even Stand Up To Cancer were loving his work, writing: “David’s journey in the Tent is a masterclass in resilience, determination, and the power of a well-baked meringue #GBBO #StandUpToCancer.”

David and broadcaster Gabby were up against Dancing on Ice judge Oti Mabuse and comedian and writer Suzi Ruffell.

At the beginning of the show, he declared that he didn’t want to be the worst baker in the show’s history.

Unfortunately, his abilities left a lot to be desired and his creations were not met with approval by the judges, with Paul Hollywood in particular being very harsh.

He managed to redeem himself somewhat at the end of the show with his meringue creation Meringue-tarctica 1915 which was a tribute to Shackleton.

It took three people to move it during the creation and the finished piece was particularly impressive given his earlier failures.

Despite his lack of baking skills, he did manage to keep presenter Alison Hammond entertained though by demonstrating his breakdancing skills.

Admitting he used to do it when he was a child, she asked him to show her some moves.

While he initially put on an impressive performance, he then fell flat on his face with a painful-sounding thud leading Alison to laugh hysterically.
