Christine McGuinness has admitted she’s no longer afraid of death after taking part in the BBC series Pilgrimage, which sees a group of famous faces take part in a trek to better understand each other’s beliefs.
The 36-year-old appeared on The One Show on Wednesday evening with her co-stars Spencer Matthews and Sonali Shah, as she opened up about the life-changing experience.
When asked what she got out of the process, she told hosts Roman Kemp and Alex Scott: “So much! Getting to know everybody else, understanding other people and religions.
“I think one of the best things was making friends. But for me personally, I think it was not being so afraid of dying anymore.” The mum-of-three explained that before her participation in the show, she was kept up at night, worrying about who would look after her children if she was no longer here.
She continued: “Before that, it was something that was really keeping me awake at night. I’ve got three young children and worries and concerns as a parent.
“Of course, you worry about not being around to look after them, but for me, it was really taking over my mind.”
The television personality added: “While I was on Pilgrimage I really just learned to live in the moment and enjoy the present, to embrace the ‘Right now’ and that was the best thing that I took away from it.”
As well as Christine, Spencer, and Sonali, the show also stars Amanda Lovett, Tom Rosenthal, Eshaan Akbar, and Michaela Strachan.
The seven famous faces tackled a seven-day pilgrimage, along North Wales Pilgrim’s Way.
They travelled for two weeks on foot and bus as they began their journey at Flint Castle on the bank of the Dee Estuary, before following up the coastal path to Greenfield Valley.
It wasn’t easy for the celebrities as they tackled challenging climbs and paths as well as having to carry their own backpacks and sleeping in basic accommodation.
The show is in its sixth series, with three hour-long episodes airing on BBC Two, which will showcase the celebs on their life-changing spiritual journey.
Pilgrimage airs at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Friday 29 March
