Gogglebox George Gilbey’s cause of death: Everything we know so far as star dies aged 40

Gogglebox star George Gilbey has died at the age of 40 in what reports have claimed was a tragic workplace accident. The Channel 4 star joined the popular show in 2013 and also made it to the finals of Celebrity Big Brother the following year.

Channel 4 released a statement confirming the sad news of George’s death. It read: “George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and stepdad Pete.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda and George’s family and friends at this very sad time. The family have asked for privacy.”

Essex Police have confirmed they were called to an incident in Shoebury in Southend-on-Sea on Wednesday, where a man had died after falling from a height. A statement from the force read: “We received a report of an incident at Campfield Road in Shoebury at around 10am this morning (March 27), during which a man who was working at height had fallen and sustained an injury.

“The ambulance service including air ambulance were in attendance. Sadly, the man died at the scene. We will continue liaising with partners including the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

“A cordon remains in place at the scene.”

A cause of death is yet to be officially confirmed by George’s representatives. Express.co.uk previously reached out for comment.

Geordie Shore star Ricci Guarnaccio has paid a special tribute to George, sharing a set of their shared snaps on X and commenting that George’s death “broke his heart.”

Ricci appeared on Celebrity Big Brother alongside George in 2016. His moving tribute stated: “Breaks my [heart] but @georgegilbey you are well and truly going to be missed my friend.

“Always lit up the room, cared for others & the memories we made I’ll cherish for ever brother. From CBB to speaking to you last week, I’m going to hugely miss you ma boiii! Love you G.” (sic)

Shortly after 6pm on Wednesday, George’s account shared a promotional post for a singer called Scarlett Rose. Fans were left puzzled and some suggested that his account had been hacked.

However, according to The Mirror, George had scheduled a number of posts prior to his sudden death. One person commented on a post from Tuesday evening: “These are all scheduled posts that George had previously set, it doesn’t need reporting, please just allow all of us family and friends to grieve in peace.”

George shot to fame in 2013 when he and his family appeared on the Channel 4 series, Gogglebox. They left the show in 2014 but later returned in 2016.

His death comes just less than three years after the family tragically lost George’s stepdad, Pete. George’s mum Linda was also on Gogglebox for eight seasons and the family became instant sensations for providing amusing commentary.
