Dame Judi Dench has enjoyed the comforts of a picturesque farmhouse in Surrey after she purchased the property almost four decades ago, with her late husband, Michael Williams.
The 89-year-old’s home in Surrey is reportedly worth an estimated £8million but she previously shared it has now been overrun with a mice infestation and was collapsing.
The Bond icon said: “The mice have moved in since lockdown and I’m battling the mice. They have moved in and taken over a bit.”
The actress revealed this is not her only concern with the historic property, built in 1497, which is also on the verge of collapse.
Dame Judi added: “My house is falling down a bit here and there.”
The property is said to boast “wonderful gardens” and also has a separate cottage, a swimming pool, workshops, barns and a pond.
Judi recently sat down with Louis Theroux and spoke candidly about her career and personal life where she revealed how she managed to purchase the property.
In the interview with the BBC presenter that aired in 2022, Judi revealed that it was an advertisement for Clover soft spread that helped them take the property off the market.
She said: “Suddenly, Michael and I got a Clover butter advertisement that bought this house. It was something like 38 years ago.”
The James Bond star confirmed the advertisement was a one-off and not part of a running brand agreement.
After a producer stepped in to show her the ad, she admittedly had no recollection of ever filming it.
Michael Williams and Judi wed in 1971 and remained married until his death from lung cancer in 2001 aged 65.
On the 10th of January 2001, Michael was appointed a Knight of St Gregory by Pope John Paul II for his contribution to Catholic life in Britain, but he sadly died the following day.
Speaking about her late husband on David Tennant’s podcast Judi said: “He was the most unselfish man, and he wouldn’t ever attribute that to anything that might be between us… Oh, God, how he used to make me laugh.
“He used to make me absolutely howl.”
She has since embarked on a romance with partner David Mills, who she met in 2015.
Judi said: “It’s wonderful to be in love. That state when you’re glad to see somebody and they make you laugh and you just like being with.”
The actress, who has one daughter, also revealed she wishes she had had “lots more children”.
