ITV Dancing on Ice ‘fix’ row erupts as winner announced after star forced to withdraw

Dancing on Ice fans have branded the 2024 final a “fix” after Ryan Thomas was announced as the ITV competition’s champion this evening following a public vote.

The hit show, hosted by Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern, saw Adele Roberts, Miles Nazaire, and Ryan go up against each other in the all-important final after Greg Rutherford had to pull out of the competition.

Adele scored full marks following her daring cowboy-inspired routine to Beyonce’s Texas Hold ‘Em after she opened the show with pro skater Mark Hanretty.

Miles scored 38 points, despite falling over during the middle of his routine. Meanwhile, Ryan was thrilled to get 40 points from the judges following his Game of Thrones-inspired performance.

Ryan was announced as the show’s winner, with Miles the runner-up and Adele in third place. But fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter in their droves, to comment on the result.

One fan fumed: “What a f****g JOKE. If Adele can’t win then a woman is never going to win again. congrats on another boring straight man winning #DancingOnIce.”

A second penned: “Joke is right… Two males who’ve fallen down get through, the only woman who hasn’t fallen out. Adele has been the best skater since the start, she was let down by a routine while the other two got better ones.”

Han added: “I’m sorry but Adele going out was a fix. #DancingOnIce.”

Ahead of the result, Chloe said: “Miles should have been 3rd, he fell in his first routine, this is why it’s a fix and I so hope Ryan wins now #DancingOnIce.”

However, Nicola penned: “To be honest, I didn’t see it coming, but tonight Ryan pulled it out of the bag and deserves the win. #DancingOnIce.”

Fern, who noticed Ryan dedicated his win to competitor Gred said: “Ryan dedicates his win to Greg, sweet sweet man #DancingOnIce.”

Ahead of the show airing, Greg had to drop out of the final due to a “significant injury”. The 37-year-old was set to perform alongside his partner Vanessa James in tonight’s final of the ITV competition.

Vanessa shared on social media: “Unfortunately Greg has sustained a significant injury this morning at rehearsals and won’t be able to perform tonight. We are on our way to the hospital for Greg to get examined further and receive the treatment he needs.”

Holly told ITV viewers on Sunday everyone’s “completely gutted” that Greg had to pull out of the final hours before.

At the start of tonight’s episode, Holly, 43, said: “You may have noticed that Greg and Vanessa weren’t part of our opening and unfortunately Greg injured himself in rehearsals earlier today. We’re all completely gutted and sadly he cannot continue in the competition.”

Fellow host Stephen said he was “so sorry” for Greg and sent him well wishes.

Dancing on Ice episodes are available to watch on ITVX and the series is set to return next year on ITV.
