Emmerdale’s Moira Barton (played by Natalie J Robb) is due to confide in another resident about a major secret she’s been hiding from the world.
The ITV soap’s producer Laura Shaw teased the upcoming storyline with Express.co.uk and other media at an Emmerdale press event.
She said Moira’s secret is linked to her past – but Laura did not want to give the entire game away ahead of the episode airing in the New Year.
Instead, Laura simply shared: “Moira’s going to make a big confession to one of our villagers.
“It’s a secret from her past that she’s going to reveal.
“Moira does it to try to help the person that she’s talking to, but how is that person going to react when they find out Moira’s deepest, darkest secret?”
Laura warned: “If they blow it, it could threaten Moira’s whole life.”
Could the secret impact her relationship with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) if he ends up finding out about it?
Laura gave no details as to which villager Moira confides in – could it be another Dingle or someone outside the family?
She also warned tragedy will strike after Christmas, tearing two of the show’s most-loved families apart.
Laura added: “There’s going to be a tragedy in the village in January that’s going to affect two of our most loved families.
“It’s ultimately going to tear friendships apart and change the dynamics of one of those families forever.”
Will this storyline involve the Dingles or another couple of families in the Yorkshire-based drama?
Meanwhile, Moira has no idea her partner Cain is hiding a dark secret of his own from most of the world, minus Kim Tate (Claire King).
He knows Kim’s horse killed rapist Craig Reed (Ben Addis) but they made a pact to keep it their little secret. Could the truth be exposed in January?
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
