Katie Piper gives health update after being absent from Loose Women for weeks

Katie Piper updated ITV viewers on Wednesday’s Loose Women after being away from the show for six weeks. The presenter explained she had been away to have surgery on her eye, which has been giving her issues for the past couple of years.

Katie is blind in one eye after the acid attack she suffered in 2008. She hasn’t been seen on Loose Women for weeks as she needed surgery on the eye, and when she returned today she detailed how her eye had to be stitched.

“Hello, stranger, first of all, Katie, we haven’t seen you for what, five or six weeks?”

“I think it’s that long actually, yeah,” Katie replied.

“You were saying you were going off to get a procedure done on your eye,” Kaye detailed.

“Yeah, so I had a planned procedure called a tarsorrhaphy, which is a semi-permanent closure of the eye.

“So it’s an operation done in theatre and your eye is sort of fully or partially stitched up.

“So some people might be familiar with it, you normally see it when somebody has some kind of disease of the cornea.

“And closing the eye gives it the optimum environment for it to heal.”

The 40-year-old continued: “So I’ve had quite a lot of problems with my eye in the last year-and-a-half.

“I don’t like to go on about it because there’s always somebody worse off!”

“But do you know what Katie, you never go on about anything,” Kaye replied.

“That’s the incredible thing about you, you’re just so stoic, it’s so incredible.”

“It’s been quite painful, so it’s quite a relief for me to finally have it stitched up because it’s a lot more comfortable,” Katie added.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
