Paddy McGuinness’s split from wife Christine will be ‘expensive’ now the ‘gloves are off’

Paddy McGuinness could potentially face an expensive divorce battle with Christine McGuinness.

According to Mail Online proceedings began this week to formally end their marriage, with Christine hiring family lawyer Catherine Bedford of top London firm, Harbottle and Lewis.

She has represented other high-profile names including Ant McPartlin’s ex-wife Lisa Armstrong and Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, who split from American singer Joe Jonas last year.

A source told the publication: “The gloves are off, she was good to Paddy, she stayed at home and brought up his children while he was out earning money.

“It’s going to be an expensive divorce for Paddy. Christine has had enough.”

Express.co.uk has contacted Paddy and Christine McGuinness’s representatives for comment.

The news comes after Paddy has lost a string of jobs including Top Gear which has been shelved following Freddie Flintoff’s accident. In addition, a Question of Sport, which the funnyman fronted, has also been axed after 53 years.

The comedian will soon be back on the road as he returns to stand-up comedy.

The couple decided to go their separate ways in 2022 after 15 years together and three children but still live together in the same home.

Christine recently said she stayed in the marriage for far longer than she should have because she “doesn’t like change”.

In her documentary, Unmasking My Autism she stated: “I was only 19 when I met Patrick and for the last 15 years my role has been wife and mum.

“When I got diagnosed, I set out on a personal mission to figure out who I was, because I’ve played that many different roles in life and not really knowing which part of it was actually me, or who or which one was mostly me.

“So I’m clearing out because I literally had a wardrobe full of clothes to wear how I thought I was supposed to look and you’re not actually supposed to look like anything or anyone other than yourself.

“I’ve also separated with my husband in the process and I’m just, yeah, shedding I suppose, shedding my old identity, trying to figure out what my new one is.”
