Shane MacGowan’s widow Victoria Mary Clarke smiles bravely as she arrives at funeral

Shane MacGowan’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke smiled at fellow mourners gathered through the streets of Dublin ahead of his funeral in Co Tipperary. She was pictured looking out of her car window at fans, who had gathered in their thousands to celebrate the life of The Pogues frontman.

Victoria could be seen wearing black for the sombre occasion, but brightened up her look with a pop of red lipstick. Her car followed a horse-drawn glass-sided carriage carrying Shane’s coffin.

The coffin was draped in an Irish tricolor and featured a black and white image of the Fairytale of New York hitmaker. During the funeral procession, a marching band played the festive track, which is one of The Pogues’ most famous songs.

Shane married Victoria in 2018, years after the pair first met in a pub when she was just 16, going on to date four years later. The singer’s widow had shared her disbelief over the funeral coming around so quickly following Shane’s tragic death from pneumonia at the age of 65 on November 30.

She wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday: “Tomorrow is Shane’s funeral which is hard to believe and probably I won’t believe it for a while. Shane hated funerals and he refused to go to them with a few rare exceptions.”
