Sunday Brunch guest Amy Newsome had to front her cooking segment wearing plasters this morning after sustaining an injury during rehearsals. The cook joined Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy in the studio to demonstrate her fritto misto recipe but was noticeably wearing a blue plaster on each hand as he joked about her lack of professionalism.
As host Simon introduced Amy’s segment to viewers, he urged her to address “the elephant in the room” and show her injured hands to viewers. She then proceeded to explain: “I’m not a professional chef, so that much is obvious by my hands at the moment, I’m a home cook.
“But no, I slammed my hand in a door when I left home this morning.” Quizzed on whether the incident was caused out of “anger”, she added: “I was carrying lots of blossom for today and I couldn’t wait to get here, so I was enthusiastically closing the door and smashed my fingers.”
Amy’s troubles didn’t end there as the cook then revealed she slashed her hand while using her mandolin. “But now, it’s nice and protected, so surely I won’t do it again,” she added, sounding hopeful.
As she spoke the hosts through her recipe, Amy said she had more of her ingredients pre-chopped than planned due to having “minimal fingers to work with”. Ploughing through like a trooper however, she managed to complete her segment with the help of Simon.
Quizzed on how her hands were after the demonstration, she replied: “Still in tact, thanks for helping out.”
Amy was joined in the studio by fellow guests Gyles Brandreth, John Robins, Anita Rani, Gaby Roslin, Sheyi Cole and Kid Kapichi.
During an interview with Taskmaster’s John, Tim found himself in an awkward moment after making a blunder about his show.
After confusing his YouTube show with Alex Horne with a podcast, the comedian asked the host: “Do you ever read your notes?”
Laughing, Tim replied: “I do, but not on you.”
As John continued to plug the projects he was working on, the presenter jokingly added: “Here’s the reason why I don’t read the notes.”
The blunder came after the presenter also asked John earlier on in the show if he was hungover, not realising he hadn’t had a drink in over a year.
Tim later joked he had finally read notes about his guest after getting “into trouble” about his lack of knowledge.
The Sunday Brunch continues next week on Channel 4 at 9.30am.
