Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid joked her co-star Laura Tobin could be getting a call from bosses after failing to show up to work. On Monday’s show, the host highlighted that February 5 has been dubbed National Sickie Day as it has the highest number of Brits calling into work sick.
Explaining more, Susanna said: “Some experts say calling in sick is good for you and for the company you work for because it gives you a rest day to reset. Duvet days should be built into our schedules.
“There are others who say you should get sacked, for pulling in a sickie. So Laura Tobin, really sorry but someone might be on the phone with you later!”
Richard Madeley interjected: “She’s not the only one on this team! We’ve got make-up artists not in, we’ve got all sorts of people.” As the camera cut to where Laura normally stands, Richard questioned where she was.
He added: “Where is she? Oh not there, under the duvet as we speak. She’s lost her voice.” Stepping in to replace the regular weather presenter was ITV’s Alex Beresford.
At the beginning of the show, the hosts joked about Laura’s absence as they laughed at her not being at work on national sickie day.
Susanna added: “Look, let’s not laugh, let’s hope she’s ok!”
Giving them an update on her health, Alex told the duo he spoke to her on the weekend and she seems to be doing well.
Richard interjected: “It’s a larynx issue, isn’t it?”
Agreeing, Alex confirmed: “She can’t talk very well at the moment. So, she can’t be here to do the forecast but she’s hoping to be here tomorrow.”
Susanna highlighted not being able to speak hinders her ability to do the job as Alex cheekily swiped she chose the wrong day to call in sick as the weather won’t be the best.
Laura hasn’t yet spoken about missing Monday’s show as her last post on social media was on Friday where she paid tribute to Kate Garraway’s husband.
Posting a snap of a candle with a glass of bubbly, she wrote: “A toast to Derek Draper.
“Lighting a candle from his funeral service which was full of wonderful tributes.”
Many Good Morning Britain cast members attended Derek’s funeral on Friday to support their colleague, including Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard.
The 56-year-old will be speaking on the ITV show for the first time since laying her husband to rest on Monday morning.
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
