The Apprentice’s Karren Brady details one thing Lord Sugar won’t stand for

The 18th season of The Apprentice will see a new group of budding entrepreneurs try to show Lord Alan Sugar, Karren Brady and Tim Campbell they’re worthy of a huge £250,000 investment. To do so, they’ll face a series of tough challenges and tasks to try and stand out from the other candidates in the show.

In each episode, BBC viewers will see the groups split into teams, with one team winning a treat and the other finding themselves at the bottom while being at risk of going home. While trying to fight their corner to stay in the competition, things usually tend to get quite heated in the boardroom.

Speaking about how some people get feisty at that point in the show, Baroness Karren Brady revealed it’s not always a good thing for Lord Sugar to see. She said: “Like anything in life, if you don’t stand up for yourself, no one will stand up for you.

“If you’re looking to get a partnership with one of the world’s most successful people and a quarter of a million pounds, you’ve got to stand by your opinions.” Karren expressed that people should be able to properly articulate why they shouldn’t get fired.

She added: “It is important that you stand up for yourself, but it’s also important to watch your tone. None of us like to have a tone that is disrespectful, or particularly disrespectful to your colleagues.

“It’s okay to stand up for yourself, but we wouldn’t tolerate bullying or disrespect in the boardroom.”

Season 18 of The Apprentice will kick off on February 1 on BBC One where viewers will see the candidates head off to the Scottish Highlands.

While being overseen by Baroness Karren Brady and Tim Campbell, the group will be divided into two teams

Being tasked with a corporate hospitality challenge, the men and women teams will compete to put on high-end away days for corporate clients.

Throughout the series, viewers can expect to see equally challenging tasks from a virtual escape room to creating children’s cereal.

Along the way, there’ll also be some ventures across seas as the group will take a hop over the channel to Jersey for the classic discount buying task.

There’s also a tourism challenge set to happen slightly further afield in the gorgeous location of Budapest.

This year, some of the candidates include a fitness coach, an international DJ and two pie experts.

Touching on the candidates this year, Karren Brady added: “I think it’s probably the most highly qualified set of candidates we’ve ever had.

“Pharmacist, dentist, some already successful business owners. I think from that point of view, the standard is really very high, but with high standards and high achievers comes a high ego!

“They think they’re really, really, really, really good and like most entrepreneurs and highly successful people, they often think they’re the best in the room, and working as a team can prove very challenging for some people.”

The Apprentice Series 18 premieres on Thursday February 1 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
