Kate Winslet fans have hailed her latest role in political satire The Regime as one of her “most outstanding performances” ever. Available exclusively on Sky, the darkly comedic series stars the Oscar-winning Titanic actress as the increasingly isolated and paranoid leader of a fictional European autocracy who sees her dictatorship begin to crumble.
The six-part series tells the story of life within the walls of a modern authoritarian regime as it unravels. After not leaving the palace for quite some time, Chancellor Elena Vernham (Winslet) has grown increasingly paranoid and unstable when she turns to a volatile soldier as an unlikely confidant.
But as his influence over the increasingly isolated and paranoid chancellor grows, Elena’s attempts to expand her power eventually result in the palace and the country fracturing around her. The Regime is airing now on Sky Atlantic, which is one of many premium channels included with Sky’s TV, Sky Stream and Netflix bundle for £26 a month.
