The manager of this supermarket located in Redon (Brittany) decided to take matters into his own hands after the sudden repeated thefts from his store. Problem: The method he used is illegal.
Marc Danilo uses great means. This director of Intermarché in Redon (Brittany), exasperated by repeated thefts from his store, decided to implement drastic measures to limit delinquency in his supermarket, reports. West of France. The latter did not hesitate to put up a poster with shocking lines to deter thieves.
“In some countries thieves are amputated… Here they pay three times the price of the damage.” So I could read, among other things, until Wednesday, August 14, 2024, on the glass walls of the reception. Since it was changed, the store manager “fully accepts” these comments.
The poster published at Intermarché also states that three measures will be taken in case of refusal of payment. First, the Redon gendarmerie company will be contacted immediately. “We know we have their support, they come systematically when we call them,” says the store manager.
The store also announces that it will file a complaint against the thief, but mentions a third measure that also raises questions: displaying the name and photo of the thief. An increasingly widespread practice.
Illegal practice
Issue: article 226-1 of the Criminal Code prohibits the intentional invasion of the privacy of others. In particular “by fixing, recording or transmitting, without the consent of the person, the image of a person found in a private place”.
Another significant legislative aspect: the presumption of innocence. The preliminary article of the Code of Criminal Procedure states that “any person suspected or prosecuted is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”
