Angela Rayner hits back after ex-neighbour brands her ‘f****** liar’ in council house row

Angela Rayner hit back at a former neighbour who branded her a “f****** liar” in a council house tax row.

The deputy Labour leader is facing scrutiny over whether she should have paid capital gains tax when she sold her former council house almost a decade ago.

It has been claimed she was living at a property about a mile away on Lowndes Lane after marrying Mark Rayner in 2010.

But she denies any wrongdoing and insists the ex-council house on Vicarage Road was her main residence until she sold it for a £48,500 profit in 2015.

Sylvia Hampson, 83, who lives on Lowndes Lane, told the Mail on Sunday that Ms Rayner was a “f****** liar” if she was saying she did not live with her then-husband.

She said: “If she is saying she didn’t live there she is a f***ing liar.

“She definitely lived at that house. She can’t say she didn’t live there. I would swear on the Bible to that.

“They got married from that house. I remember the wedding cars coming to the house to collect Mark and his brother to take them to the church.”

But Ms Rayner’s spokesman hit back: “Gossip and hearsay does not change the fact that Angela Rayner maintained her own home while sharing childcare responsibilities with her husband at his property.

“Angela Rayner has set out her family’s circumstances and has taken expert tax and legal advice which confirms that no capital gains tax was payable on the sale of her home.”

The Ashton-under-Lyne MP has been dubbed “two homes Rayner” after claims about her living arrangements emerged in a new unauthorised biography by Tory peer Lord Ashcroft.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt mocked her over the row as he delivered his Budget in the Commons last Wednesday.
