“The average hourly price for a babysitter in France is now 10.50 euros compared to 10.12 euros in 2023 and for a carer, 3.96 euros compared to 3.80 euros in 2023,” the platform indicates. That's a price increase of 4.21% and 3.75% for childcare and home care according to the study.

In the face of rising childcare costs, there are solutions. The Family Allowance Fund (CAF) provides financial assistance through the childcare benefit (Paje), which includes a “free choice of childcare supplement” component. The tax credit for hiring a home employee also helps reduce the bill. In total, both solutions can result in a 50% reduction, or 5.06 euros per hour.

Revaluation of the profession

As for the reason for the increase in childcare rates, it stems not so much from inflation according to Marie Cavillon, the company's managing director, but from a reevaluation of the sector. “The wage increase in early childhood professions planned as part of COG 2023-2027 is a crucial step forward in restoring the attractiveness of these essential professions,” she said in a press release quoted by Le Figaro. “We see every day the positive impact of fair pay on the quality of childcare.”
