Dan Wootton ‘threatens Carol Vorderman with legal action’ after being cleared by police

Former GB News presenter Dan Wootton’s legal team is writing to Carol Vorderman and former Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis over statements made by them on Twitter, according to Press Gazette.

The suspended TV host is also considering legal action against other media outlets over articles published in October last year, it was reported.

Earlier in the week, Wootton broke his silence after being reportedly cleared by the Metropolitan Police following a lengthy investigation.

Allegations were made by Byline Times about Wootton, including claims of criminal behaviour of a “sexual nature”, last summer.

Wootton said in a statement at the time that he made “errors of judgement”, but he has always thoroughly denied any form of criminality.

A complaint was made to the Metropolitan Police and an investigation was carried out but he was never arrested or charged.

Former Loose Women star Carol McGiffin branded the police investigation into Wootton a “political witch hunt”, after learning he had been cleared.

Expressing her opinion, she told her 460,000 followers: “It was a foregone conclusion no investigation (was) necessary but don’t let innocent people’s lives get in the way of a good political witch hunt.

“F*** those nasty, evil, bitter psychopaths. Onwards and upwards @danwootton.”

Wootton was suspended by GB News last September, after thousands of viewers complained to Ofcom over Reclaim Party founder and former actor Laurence Fox’s allegedly sexist rant about a female journalist.

Complaints were lodged after Fox’s comments towards Ava Evans on the show. Fox made a series of remarks about the political correspondent.

At one point he asked: “Who would want to s**g that?” as he spoke to host Wootton, who laughed at the comment.
