This Wednesday morning, at a press conference, the chancellor showed a smile: on the eve of the start of the school year and despite the national political context, this school year promises to be “serene”, she assured.
If Anne Bisagni-Faure is confident about the 570,026 students of the academy in Bordeaux (1) from the 3,093 schools, it is not for nothing. First, the positions are almost all filled or in the process of being filled; including long-term replacements. Good news for staff, 56,460 agents including 43,834 teachers. Specifically, “the needs of mathematics teachers will be fully covered; Special attention will be paid to the stations in French,” announced the rector. Finally, the budget for short-term replacements was doubled, while 1,338 contract workers were assigned (90% of whom were renewed).
It needs groups
And that was no small thing in this school year 2024, marked by the launch of needs groups in the middle school, in French and in mathematics in the 6th and 5th grades. In total, these required 132 additional posts at the academy. Regarding the operational implementation of these level groups, their timing and distribution, the rector specified that a large margin of maneuver would be left to the heads of units, through the educational council, in order to “be as close as possible to the needs of the field”, continued Anne Bisagni-Faure, underlining the philosophy of the project: “the goal is to help all students progress”.
From the same idea, 125 additional support workers for students with disabilities were recruited as part of the “inclusive school” and 10 Local Educational Inclusion Units (Ulis) were created.
Finally, the academy will experiment with the “second preparatory course for high school” for students who failed the certificate, in five units: lycées François-Mauriac in Bordeaux, Charles-Despiau (40); Bernard-Palissy (47); Jacques-Monod (64); Albert-Claveille (24).
