While across France, municipalities are removing plaques, street names, schools or frescoes, the association is asking the mayor of Pinsaguel, which will debate it at its next municipal council, to join the movement of cities that have chosen to “erase” the memory of the abbe Pierre , in the name of the fight against sexual violence.
Arnaud Gallais, president of the Mouv'Enfants association, a movement of “survivors” of childhood violence, has just written to the mayor of Pinsaguel, Jean-Louis Coll, to ask him to join the movement of the communes that have chosen to “Erase” the memory of Abbé Pierre in the name of the fight against sexual abuse.
“We have become aware of a sculpture and bust bearing the image of Abbe Pierre in your city,” explains Arnaud Gallais “In view of the recent revelations, we want this sculpture and bust removed.” For the presidents of the Mouv'Enfants association, it is no longer possible to leave the tributes to the religious founder of the Emmaüs community as they are.
“They no longer publicly honor his memory”
“If we cannot erase what he did, it is a matter of dignity for the victims to no longer publicly honor his memory,” he points out. “We know today that the diocese of Grenoble and the people of the Emmaus movement were aware of these actions. Arnaud Gallais even encouraged the mayor of Pinsaguel to contact the Abbé Pierre Foundation for the costs generated by this operation. “We hope that it is not the taxpayers who pay, but those who did not denounce his actions, and you can count on our support in this process,” assures Arnaud Gallais. The next municipal council of Pinsaguel should debate the question…
