A municipality managed to avoid closing a primary school class by enrolling more sheep. This operation, which aimed to denounce the absurdity of academic inspection methods, worked.
It is a story hardly believable… It is nevertheless true and confirmed by Bertrand Janson, the mayor of Voyer (Moselle). Asked by RTL. “All's well that ends well,” he gloated into the RTL microphone. where he recounted the success of Operation “Sheep” launched in January in his city to avoid class closures.
In fact, Voyer Primary School had announced the closure of one of its five classes for the start of the school year due to insufficient numbers. Elected officials and students' parents mobilized and made the decision to symbolically enroll four sheep in the school. A way to denounce the academy inspection that counts “children like sheep”.
“We replaced the sheep with real children”
And to go even further, the sheep of a local farmer, himself a parent of a student, were moved from their enclosure to the playground. A welcome sign for “4 new entrants” was even hung on the school's entrance gate.
As the initial mobilization made noise, residents of neighboring towns decided to enroll their child at Voyer, which will therefore retain its five classes at the start of the school year in September. “We replaced the sheep with real children,” the mayor is keen to point out, not without humour.
