Prosecutors claim Hunter Biden spent cash on ‘drugs, escorts and cars’ while avoiding tax

United States prosecutors have filed tax charges against Hunter Biden.

It means US President Joe Biden’s son will now face a second criminal case against him. The charges allege he “engaged in a four-year scheme to not pay at least $1.4m in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years 2016 through 2019”.

According to the BBC, the nine charges include failure to file and pay taxes, false tax return, and evasion of assessment. Hunter Biden was indicted in September on federal firearm charges in Delaware.

The 53-year-old has already pleaded not guilty in the gun case. The White House has not yet commented on the charges.

Prosecutors allege he “continued to earn handsomeley and to spend wildly” in 2018. The indictment says his expenditure increases along with his income.

The prosecution says he spent more than $1.8 million in 2018. This includes cash withdrawals, around $383,000 to women and $151,000 in clothing.

They say he had “sufficient funds available” to pay his taxes, but opted not to. It claims he also wrote off personal costs as business expenses, including travel, and a rental Lamborghini he drove in 2018 while waiting for his Porsche to be shipped to California.

The prosecution also refers to a paternity lawsuit brought by an individual known as “person 1” who is said to have been in a romantic relationship with Hunter Biden.

It says she was paid $22,500 in wages after being put on the payroll, although the indictment says she did not work.
