“The Fort-de-France police station was the target of two shootings with live ammunition by two hooded individuals on motorcycles,” the prefecture said in a press release. This violence was “strongly” condemned by the prefect of Martinique, Jean-Christophe Bouvier. According to a police source, a person in connection with this attack has been arrested.
“Colleagues are getting tired of this situation, but they remain professionals,” reacted Thierry Baucelin, general secretary of the Alliance Police Nationale union, to local radio RCI.
Live ammunition
For the second night in a row, “dams were set on fire again” in the Sainte-Thérèse district, “by groups of individuals who threw stones at the police,” the prefecture said. Mobile gendarmes dispatched to the scene responded with tear gas.
Violence had already broken out in this neighborhood on the night of September 2 to 3, during which the policemen were the target of real fire.
