Social network X suspended by Brazilian courts, inaccessible throughout the country

The magistrate ordered the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to “adopt all necessary measures” for this measure to take effect within 24 hours. He also called on tech giants Google and Apple, as well as internet service providers, to “introduce technological barriers capable of preventing the use of the X application” and access to the site.

24 hour ultimatum

Judge Moraes on Wednesday evening gave the platform of the American billionaire 24 hours to appoint a legal representative in the country, under penalty of suspension of the network.

As the deadline expired, the social network (formerly Twitter) indicated in a press release that it expected to be blocked “shortly” for its refusal to comply with the “illegal orders” of Judge Moraes, at the forefront of the fight against disinformation in country, to “censor political opponents”.

The suspension will remain in effect until the social network complies with the decisions of the Brazilian courts, pays the fines imposed on it and appoints a legal representative, according to the decision handed down on Friday.

The closing of the offices is announced

On August 17, Elon Musk announced the closure of X's offices in Brazil, citing Judge Moraes' actions, while leaving the service available there.

In April, the magistrate opened an investigation into Elon Musk, accusing him of reactivating accounts suspended by the decision of the Brazilian courts. X admitted that users were able to bypass the restrictions.
