Four leaders of Hamas’ armed wing have been killed, including a top commander in charge of the brigades in northern Gaza, the terror group claimed on Sunday.
The Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades announced the death of the prominent members of the group in a message penned on the Telegram messaging app.
The most prominent name made by Hamas was that of Ahmad Al Ghandour, a member of Hamas’ military council and the commander of the militia in northern Gaza.
While Hamas didn’t specify when the top commander had died, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) had said to have targeted him on November 17, albeit they didn’t claim to have killed him.
The group also named among its dead leaders Ayman Siyyam, who Israeli media said was head of the Brigades’ rocket-firing units.
Wael Rajab and Raafat Salman were also named as the killed leaders in the Hamas statement.
Without saying when they died, the Hamas’ message added: “We pledge to Allah we will continue their path and that their blood will be a light for the mujahedeen and a fire for the occupiers.”
Ghandour, whose code name was Abu Anas, had been listed as a “specially designated global terrorist” and placed on an economic sanctions blacklist by the US in 2017.
The terror leaders are believed to have died during a missile strike launched by Israel on the Gaza Strip, but the IDF has not yet commented on their killing.
