A woman died on Saturday, August 17, following a landslide while driving with her partner on a road in southern Drôme, the prefecture announced.
These two sixty-year-olds from Isère were traveling late in the morning on the RD94, about 15 km east of Nyons, when a huge mass of rocks, estimated to be “around 15 m3”, fell on their vehicle utilitarian.
The driver was able to get out of the car on his own and call emergency services, but the female passenger, who was trapped under the rock, was already dead by the time emergency services managed to reach her. The driver, slightly injured but very shocked, was transferred to the hospital in the area.
The road has been closed in both directions for an indefinite period and an assessment of the embankment is being carried out to determine the possibilities of reopening to traffic according to state services.
