UK hot weather: Weather maps reveal exactly when temperatures will finally reach 16C

Britons can finally expect the long-awaited hot weather after a barrage of snow and torrential rain this winter.

According to weather maps from WXCharts, the first day the country will see temperatures of 16C and upwards will be Monday, April 8.

Temperatures will peak in the south and south east where places such as Crawley, Crowborough, Newhaven, and Eastbourne could see the mildest conditions.

Weather maps suggest that Gloucester and Cheltenham in the Cotswolds could also experience 16C along with London.

Elsewhere, temperatures will be slightly lower. Devon and Cornwall will peak at 12C on Monday alongside parts of the Dorset and Somerset coast.

Further north, the majority of Wales will see temperatures in the early teens, with temperatures reaching their zenith at 14C.

Scotland is set to enjoy a variety of temperatures on Monday, April 8 as Edinburgh, Inverness, and Aberdeen bask in 14C and 11C respectively. To the south west of them, Dumfries will also see a peak of 16C.

Despite variations in temperature for many parts of the UK, the day is set to be free from high winds or any of the traditional April showers.

Weather maps from WXCharts suggest that the winds will be light and most of England, Scotland and Wales will be free from any heavy rain.

April is traditionally a changeable month for weather, one which alternates between bright sunshine and heavy rain, mixed in with the occasional shower in mild conditions. In their long-range forecast for early to mid-April, the Met Office warn about these mixed conditions.

They said: “The ongoing unsettled spell of weather is likely to continue into this period with little sign of any dramatic change. Areas of rain are likely to become more widespread across the UK through the first few days of the period, with western hills likely to see the largest rainfall totals.

“Probably widely windy, with a risk of spells of gales, or even severe gales at first in the exposed west and south. Over the following week, there may be trend towards slightly longer spells of more settled weather from the south-east, pushing the focus of most frequent rain towards the northwest.

“Above average temperatures most likely, albeit often tempered by cloud, rain and occasional strong winds.”

Met Office 5-day forecast: Tuesday, April 2nd – Saturday, April 6th

Today:

Cloudy and cold in Scotland today with outbreaks of rain. A drier start elsewhere with some bright spells, although scattered showers will break out in places. Persistent rain will move into the southwest later in the afternoon.

Tonight:

Rain spreading north across the UK tonight. Gradually turning drier in southern England with some clear spells. A mild night for most, but a patchy frost developing in northern Scotland.

Wednesday:

Heavy rain will persist across southern Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England. Largely cloudy skies further south with showers. Showers may be heavy and thundery in eastern and northern England.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Spells of rain and showers continuing over the coming days and becoming increasingly windy. Rather mild in the south and turning increasingly mild in the north after a chilly start.
