UK storm warning: Met Office issues new 14-hour ‘danger to life’ alert

The Met Office has issued an urgent “danger to life” weather warning as parts of the UK are set to be battered by a brutal 14-hour storm.

A 14-hour storm alert is in place for much of Britain between 8am and 10pm this Saturday, April 6.

Currently, seven regions have been slapped with a yellow weather warning: Northern Ireland, Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian and Borders, Strathclyde, Wales, South West England, North West England, and Central Tayside and Fife.

The Met Office explained that a deep area of low pressure will bring a spell of very windy weather to western areas this weekend

The forecaster warned that there is a “small chance that some roads and bridges could close or impose restrictions”, while power cuts could occur, with potential to affect mobile phone coverage across parts of the UK.

It added: “There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.”

There is also a chance of widespread travel chaos, with the Met Office warning road, rail, air and ferry services could be hit with cancellations.
