Large-scale military maneuvers began on Tuesday, September 10, as part of the major “Ocean-2024” exercise organized by Russia until September 16 in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, as well as in the Mediterranean, Caspian and Baltic seas. Russian and Chinese warships began military maneuvers in the northern Sea of Japan on Tuesday to better protect “economic activity” in the area, said the Russian Defense Ministry, which is holding major naval exercises in several oceans and seas.
Russia it did not say how many of its own ships were in the Sea of Japan, but said four warships and a Chinese supply ship were there. The drills with Beijing focus on “defending sea routes and areas of maritime economic activity,” the Russian ministry explained on Telegram.

“Ocean-2024” should allow testing of “training” of troops, “use of high-precision weapons” and expansion of “cooperation with the navies of partner countries”, according to the same source.
On Monday, Japan's Defense Ministry said it spotted five Chinese naval vessels heading toward Russia last weekend in the Sea of Japan. They “sailed northeast through the Tsushima Strait towards the Sea of Japan” on Saturday and Sunday, according to Tokyo. The Tsushima Strait, located between South Korea and Japan, connects the South China Sea and the Sea of Japan. Not in Japanese territorial waters.
