Kiev continues to pound Moscow on its soil, while Russian troops continue to advance into eastern Ukraine while bombing heavily. We take stock of the latest events that took place in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Kiev claimed a strike on a Russian ammunition depot in a border region on Saturday, September 7, while Moscow announced the capture of a new village in eastern Ukraine. There are now two established fronts, one opened by the Ukrainian army following its incursion into the Kursk region, on Russian territory, and the other where most of the troops are concentrated, in the Donetsk region, east of Ukrainian territory.

Meanwhile, this week, Russian shelling has not stopped, killing at least 55 people in Poltava, in central Ukraine, and another 7 in Lviv, in the west of the country and nearly 1,000 kilometers from the front. If for the moment no escalation is expected, but these strikes, quite close to the borders between Ukraine and NATO and EU members, may raise fears of the worst.
The pace of drone attacks is not slowing down either. Ukrainian authorities have indicated that they thwarted a “massive” drone attack on the capital, Kiev, on the night of September 6-7. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 67 drone strikes against Ukraine overnight, and 58 of those aerial vehicles were shot down. Russia also announces almost daily that it has destroyed Ukrainian drones launched against its territory.

A major fire that caused an explosive detonation broke out on Saturday (September 7) after a Ukrainian drone strike in Russia's Voronezh region on the border with Ukraine, and residents were ordered to evacuate, the local governor said. Although neutralized by Russian air defense systems, the drone caused a fire on the ground when it fell. According to Russian Telegram channels, the fire broke out in an ammunition warehouse, which was confirmed by the Ukrainian security services (SBU). “Nobody was hurt,” Governor Alexandre Goussev assured on Telegram, however.
An SBU source told AFP that Kiev was targeting “military airfields, ammunition depots and infrastructure” with the aim of “creating a demilitarized zone in the Russian regions bordering Ukraine”.

On the Eastern Front, Russian forces “liberated the town of Kalynove” in the Donetsk region, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. This village is located about 35 kilometers from Pokrovsk, an important logistic node, target for several weeks of Russian troops which is getting closer and closer. On Thursday, September 5, Vladimir Putin displayed his unwavering desire to conquer all of Donbass, the large industrial area in eastern Ukraine that includes the Donetsk region.
He also said he was willing to hold talks with Kiev on the basis of those in the spring of 2022 if Ukraine requests it, while Moscow previously said it ruled out any talks because of the Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region. To increase this pressure and negotiate in the best conditions, continues Volodymyr Zelensky, to demand “more weapons” as on Friday, September 6, in Germany Or this Saturday, the 7th, during an economic forum in Italy.
