The latest weather maps show snow falling off and on for seven days across a large swathe of the country even as experts predict the UK could see the hottest day of the year amid Storm Kathleen winds.
The Met Office said temperatures could reach up to 22C in East Anglia, while western areas will see gusts of up to 70mph on Saturday (April 6).
The forecaster has issued a yellow weather warning for wind in the north west and south west of England, parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, from 8am to 10pm on Saturday.
Meanwhile, weather maps generated by WX Charts using MetDesk data show up to 4cm of snow in north west Scotland on Saturday, with varying levels of snowfall continuing north of the border until April 13.
The coming week looks set to be unsettled, with spells of rain and showers. The Met Office’s long range forecast (April 10-19) shows the rainy and showery focus shifting to western and north western areas.
It adds: “Here, rain could be heavy and prolonged at times, especially in upland areas. Further windy spells of weather are also likely, particularly in the north. Meanwhile, southern and eastern areas are likely to have some decent drier spells of weather with some sunshine at times.”
In these regions, some rain is still likely, though it will probably be less heavy and less frequent than recent weeks, according to the Met Office.
Above average temperatures are most likely overall, although some cooler interludes are possible at times, especially in the north, the Met Office says.
On Friday (Aprril 5), the Met Office updated its weather warning to forecast stronger gusts during Storm Kathleen than previously expected.
It warned of injuries and danger to life from “large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties”, a possibility that “road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected” and the potential for power cuts and phone service outages.
The forecaster said winds would stay strong into Sunday (April 7), particularly in northern parts of Scotland.
