The scorching temperatures of the past few days will gradually subside as storm cells arrive. Météo France warns of intense episodes that could occur in 7 departments.
After the heatwave that has ravaged most of the country in recent days, temperatures will drop on Tuesday, August 13. So the sun will remain dominant all day over the eastern half of the territory, the damage will appear in the west. Weather France places 7 departments on orange alert.
At dawn, the thermometer shows between 15 and 20°C, up to 24°C around the Mediterranean Sea. The heat wave continues in the departments of Rhône, Ain, Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Isère, Drôme, Alpes-Maritimes and two departments of Corsica. In the South-East district, the heat endures and the mercury reads 34 to 36°C, with peaks around 38°C for the maximum.
In the eastern half, the sun will remain dominant all day. In the rest of the country in the morning there will be light and cloudy periods, giving rise to a few showers.
Storm warning in 7 departments
Locally, deterioration is expected in the afternoon, with the weather becoming stormy. This will be particularly the case from the Lorraine Plateau to the Oise, as well as from Aquitaine to the Massif Central. In the departments placed on orange alert for storms: Allier, Puy-de-Dôme, Loire, Haute-Loire, Cantal, Aveyron and Tarn, “strong storms are expected, accompanied by intense precipitation, hail, thunderstorms, significant electrical activity. Rainfall accumulations will be around 30 to 50mm in an hour, 60 to 80mm over the period.
The instability will gradually spread from the Pyrenees to Auvergne, Limousin and southern Burgundy, generating frequent and strong storms (hail, heavy rain and strong gusts of around 100 km/h).
Risk of storms in Occitania
“Bad weather will move towards the rest of Burgundy, Franche-Comté, Grand Est and the Paris region by the end of the day and evening, while it will continue to threaten the surroundings of the Massif Central up to the Pyrenees,” the forecaster also warns.
For the next night,”a second stormy damage is expected in the southwestrising from the bottom of the Bay of Biscay and Spain to Aquitaine and Toulouse lunch time.”
A worsening of the “storm” alert is still possible in certain departments initially placed in “yellow”, warns Météo France.
