On Sunday, September 8, a woman received a pellet in the forehead while at home in the Vendée during a hunting accident. The Gendarmerie has opened an investigation, while the author of the shooting remains unknown for now.
Around 4pm on Sunday 8 September, a woman was injured, possibly during a hunting accident West of France. While at home, on her property in Bessay, near Moutiers-sur-le-Lay in the Vendée, she “received a lead bullet in the forehead”, the gendarmerie details.
She went to the emergency room by herself
Fortunately, the accident was not fatal. The 57-year-old woman was only “slightly injured” and managed to get to the nearest emergency room on her own. However, the hunting season has not yet started in the Vendée, since it officially opens on September 15. Certain species can still be harvested, such as wild boars. In the 2022-2023 season, the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) recorded 78 hunting accidents and eight deaths, “historically low figures”, the organization points out in a report.
The Gendarmerie opened an investigation following the incident. For now, “the perpetrator has not yet been apprehended”, indicate the police officers in charge of the case.
