Asda plans to open 110 new convenience stores this month – will they be opening near you?

Asda has announced it will be opening 110 Asda Express convenience stores this month as part of a multi-million-pound investment.

The supermarket giant will convert 109 former Co-op and EG Group sites into Asda stores, and open one standalone Asda Express store in a bid to become the second largest grocery retailer in the UK.

Twelve Asda Express stores have already opened this month, including sites in Stockport, Stafford and York.

One store, on Hinckley Road in Leicester, opened today (February 5). Meanwhile, a further 12 will open tomorrow which includes stores in Dorset, Cheshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire.

Asda customers can expect to save eight percent on their shop compared to the former Co-op stores, and 15 percent in comparison to the former EG Group convenience sites.

Before the end of March, Asda plans to convert 470 of the convenience sites acquired from the Co-op and EG Group to Asda Express stores having already converted 259 sites by the end of January.

The popular supermarket chain already had eight organic Asda Express sites open.

Andy Perry, Asda’s vice president of convenience, said: “Asda’s significant investment in building a nationwide chain of convenience stores is a key component of our long-term strategy to become the number two player in UK grocery.

“February is a transformational month for the programme with a record number of store openings and conversion of all former Co-op sites to Asda Express sites.

“The teams have worked at pace to reach this point and we look forward to bringing Asda’s quality and low prices to many more communities across the UK.”
