Remove yellow pillow stains with 69p item that ‘works better than Vanish by a long shot’

Pillow stains are very normal, despite pillows being covered in pillowcases. Somehow the stains manage to seep through.

The most common stains are often yellow and are caused by several varying factors, from facial oils to saliva.

Regardless of the reason, a cleaning enthusiast has shared a product that they use to tackle the laundry task – washing up liquid.

Taking to the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips, Andrea Crammond shared before and after pictures of her pillow.

In the first picture, the pillow was covered in yellow stains and in the second one, it looked a dazzling white shade.

Explaining what she used, Andrea said: “Hi everyone, today I thought my bed pillows needed a little TLC.

“They were discoloured so instead of going out and buying more I thought I would try and revive them.

“I only used Magnum dishwashing soap from Aldi and it worked a treat better than using Vanish Gold by a long shot.

“It also took a tomato ketchup stain out of my daughter’s white Nike top. All I can say is amazing results.”

For those interested in purchasing it, the Magnum washing-up liquid from Aldi currently retails for 69p.

Fellow group members took to the comments section to ask Andrea how she used the dish soap to whiten her pillows.

She replied: “I just put a small drop in the washing mashing on a 40 [degree] wash and that was it. This stuff is brilliant.”

While Andrea saw “amazing results” from washing her pillows this way, cleaning experts don’t recommend using dish soap in a washing machine.

The experts at cleaning brand Smol claim that the soap scum generated by the washing-up liquid is “bad for your machine” and can “break down the fibres on material” being washed.

They advised: “It’s really best to use products that have been specially made to use in a washing machine as they won’t cause issues.”
