2024 Lexus LBX: New entry-level hybrid SUV detailed for Australia

Lexus Australia has detailed the launch line-up of its new LBX small crossover that’s set to go on sale in the first half of 2024.

At this stage Lexus hasn’t confirmed pricing of the LBX. This will be detailed closer to its launch.

The 2024 Lexus LBX will be available in two different trim levels – Luxury and Sports Luxury – which will both be powered by 1.5-litre three-cylinder hybrid powertrain producing a total system output of 110kW of power.

The three-cylinder petrol engine that’s part of the hybrid powertrain has “high-speed combustion technology with variable valve timing”, “ultra lightweight pistons” and a “variable cooling system”.

The entry-level Lexus LBX Luxury will only be offered in front-wheel drive guise and comes with the following standard equipment:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Two-tone paint
  • Power tailgate
  • Rain-sensing wipers
  • 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 9.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • NuLuxe leather upholstery
  • Sport front seats
  • Heated front seats
  • Electric driver’s seat with memory
  • Surround-view camera

The flagship LBX Sports Luxury on the other hand will be offered in both front- and all-wheel drive. It adds the following standard equipment on top of the Luxury:

  • 13-speaker Mark Levinson premium sound system
  • Ultrasuede leather accented upholstery
  • Semi-automatic park assist
  • Active noise control

The Lexus LBX is based on the same platform as the Toyota Yaris Cross. It will form as the smallest and potentially the least expensive Lexus on offer in Australia. Currently that is the UX SUV.

At 4190mm and 1825mm wide with a 2580mm wheelbase, the LBX is 305mm shorter, 15mm narrower, and rides on an 80mm shorter wheelbase than the UX.

As noted above, Lexus will detail pricing for the LBX closer to its local launch in the first half of 2024.
