ERC combativeness has given his support to the provisional agreement signed by the leadership, headed by Marta Rovira, with the PSC, so that the twenty pro-independence deputies vote «Yes» Salvador Illa as the next president of the Generalitat of Catalonia. The pact, which has the support of the PSOE, means that the community will enjoy an economic agreement and that the autonomous government collect and manage 100% of taxes.
Participation in the internal ERC meeting, which took place on Friday between 10:00 and 19:00, was telematic. 8,226 militants had the right to participate (a few weeks ago it was said that there were around 8,700 and yesterday “more than 8,500”) and 77% did so. Of these, 53.5% (3,397) voted “yes” to the preliminary agreement with the socialists, while the “no” vote remained at 44.8% (2,847). 1.7% (105 votes) opted for the possibility of abstaining from voting (allowed in this consultation).
In this way, ERC affiliates give the green light for Illa as successor to Pere Aragones as a tenant of the Generalitat Palace in Plaza San Jaime in Barcelona. Tomorrow the board of the PSC will meet to ratify the provisional agreement, which will not be ratified by the socialist militants. After that, it is normal for the socialist leader Josep Rull, president of the Parliament of Catalonia, to announce that he wants to be a candidate for investiture.
It is therefore logical that, as soon as Rull receives Illa's request, the parliamentary president should conduct a round of contacts with the political leaders of the groups so that they can give their opinion on the candidacy of the first secretary of the PSC. That is when Josep Maria Jové (ERC) and Jessica Albiach (Sumar) They have to confirm to Rull that they have reached an agreement with Illa. And Rull will set a day for the plenary session to take place.
Barring any surprises, the plenary session of the investiture will take place next week, although there is still time until August 26 to avoid a repeat of the elections, which were to take place on October 13. When Rull (after asking permission from the Permanent Deputation) sets the day of the inauguration, all eyes will be on Carlos PuigdemontThe leader of the Junts claims that he will return to Spain for the investiture session, despite the risk of being arrested as the Supreme Court upholds the arrest warrant on Spanish territory.
