Alicia Bárcena attends the opening of the UNGA-79 Debate

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Barcenapresent on behalf of President López Obrador, the opening of the UNGA-79 General Debate, at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York, United States.

The event was also attended by António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, and the President of the General Assembly, Philémon Yang of Cameroon, as well as leaders and representatives of the 193 UN Member States.

“Mexico, represented by the chair @SRE_mx, actively participated in the High-Level Week of #UNGA79, which marked an important milestone in global efforts to accelerate progress towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals,” the Foreign Ministry reported.

Through social media, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed that one of the priority goals of Sustainable Development is cooperation in facing challenges such as climate change, poverty, inequality, and current conflicts.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena was accompanied by SRE Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs, Joel Hernández; María Teresa Mercado, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs; and Héctor Vasconcelos, Mexico's representative to the UN.
