Angel Reese, outstanding rookie forward Chicago Sky, who has started every game the team has played this year, announced Saturday night that her first season in the WNBA is coming to an end. In a statement posted on social networksReese announced that her activities will be suspended due to an injury.
Here is Reese's full statement:
What a year. I never thought my last rookie bucket would be a 3, but maybe that’s what God said, give them a taste of what they’ll see more of in year 2 lol🥲I’ve been showing this whole time that I belong in this league even when no one believed. All I ever wanted was to come to the W and make an impact. I can confidently say I did that and will strive to continue to do so. Right now I’m emotional about a season-ending injury, but also grateful for what’s to come. Even though it’s God’s time and not mine, I can finally give myself a physical and mental rest. “God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.”
You'll still see me as the biggest fan on the sideline! And an unrivaled league, see you soon! 💞😇
While Reese didn't specify what exactly she received, she was… listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's game between the Sky and Dallas Wings because of a wrist injury. The injury comes at a particularly bad time for Chicago, which currently sits at 12-22 and holds the eighth and final seed in the WNBA playoffs — tied with the Atlanta Dream but holding the tiebreaker between the two teams.
Reese, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft and a former LSU star, has established himself as one of the W's top rebounders and earned an invitation to the All-Star Game as a rookie. She averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds in 32.5 minutes per game for the Sky this season.
